Coldplay ring in 2012 with an appearance on ‘Austin City Limits’

Coldplay are back and ready to make the touring rounds! The Britpop darlings recently released their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, to much fanfare, with the album landing at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and selling 447,000 copies in its first week of sales. Now, Chris Martin and company have booked their first North American tour in roughly three years.

The 2012 jaunt includes stops in Canada and the U.S., and it runs from April 17 in Edmonton to Aug. 11 in St. Paul, Minn. In-between those dates, the band will play a two-night stint at Los Angeles’ remarkable Hollywood Bowl. Most of the venues are arenas, so the guys shouldn’t have any of the problems that come with too intimate a setting. Earlier this week, the guys played a gig at the 500-capacity Camden Dingwalls, and the small venue proved a bit of a stumbling block for the performance.

On the heels of three Grammy nominations — one for chart-topping alternative rock single “Paradise” two for “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” — the gents plan to release their third single off Mylo Xyloto, “Charlie Brown,” later this month. The guys will also perform on a special, 90-minute episode of the live music TV series, Austin City Limits. The show, billed “Coldplay New Year’s Eve: An Austin City Limits Special,” will air on PBS stations across the country on Dec. 31 starting at 11 p.m. What a way to ring in 2012!
