‘Beyond Magnetic’ packs four lost Metallica tracks

Record Store Day is creeping up on music fans, with the annual event falling on April 21 this year. Metallica are big supporters of the day, which always takes place annually on the third Saturday of April and serves as a time for independently-owned record shops to unite with artists to honor the art of music and the brick and mortar record shop.

Metallica are putting their money where their mouth is this year by releasing an exclusive, four-song EP called “Beyond Magnetic” — which was released digitally in December and as a disc in January — on 12″ silver vinyl in conjunction with Record Store Day. The release packs four outtakes from the 2008 Death Magnetic sessions as well as a limited edition Metallica sticket. The songs were originally set to appear on the band’s 2008 album “Death Magnetic” and didn’t make the cut, so now they’ve happily found a home in “Beyond Magnetic.”

“We’ve always been big supporters of our friends at independent retail and the annual event the third Saturday of each April… We even helped kick off the first year in 2008 with an in-store appearance at one of our hometown stores!” Metallica said in an official statement. “To add to the fun, this is no ordinary black vinyl release, but instead will be on silver vinyl with an exclusive Metallica sticker included in the package. Look for the EP on the special Saturday release date at your favorite local record store and on Metallica.com… Our international friends should stay tuned for details about a release outside of North America… specifics are still being worked out with our label.” Find more information on Record Store Day via the event’s official site.
