Corey Taylor says upcoming Stone Sour album carries the ‘story of a man trying to figure it out’

New Stone Sour? Yes, please! Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has revealed via Twitter that he has official started work on the alt-metal band’s new full-length. He stated: “Construction on the new Stone Sour album began yesterday… “

As for what to expect from the new album, earlier this year, Taylor told Artisan News that the tracks are turning out to be a cross between Alice in Chains and Pink Floyd. Said Taylor: “We’re still writing and recording stuff. Right now alone, we have 13 completed songs, with six more that I can demo, probably two or three that Josh [Rand] still has that we’re tweaking, and then a bunch that Jim [Root]‘s gonna bring in.

“Our ultimate goal is a double concept album, which the only way I can describe it is ‘The Wall’ meets ‘Dirt’ on steroids. And I think it’s gonna be fantastic. And if I can pull it off, it’s gonna be the biggest thing we’ve ever done in our career.”

The album carries a storyline, too: “It’s a pretty serious story that I’m trying to weave in and out of all these riffs and stuff, so it’s really exciting,” Taylor told Faster Louder. “It’s basically the story of a man who’s trying to figure it out. He can’t figure out if he’s happier when he’s miserable, or if he’s miserable about not being happy.

“It’s almost like a mid-life crisis in a way. He’s young enough that he knows that there’s still a lot of life to live, but he’s old enough to realize that he can’t be hung up on the romance of teenage depression and youthful aggression. Stuff like that. So he’s really standing at the crossroads of his life, trying to figure out where he wants to go.”
