Maynard James Keenan-fronted Tool book major summer gig

Tool fans who missed the progressive metal band’s short run of U.S. shows earlier this year will be happy to hear they have a second chance. The brains behind the River’s Edge Music Festival have booked the Maynard James Keenan-fronted group to headline the first year of the festival, along with the Dave Matthews Band. River’s Edge Music Festival is set to run June 23 and 24 at Harriet Island in St. Paul, Minn.

One of Keenan’s other bands, Puscifer, will also play the festival. No word on whether his third group, A Perfect Circle, will make an appearance, but in our humble opinion, why not go all the way? Other bands on the bill include the Flaming Lips, Brand New, Motion City Soundtrack, Coheed & Cambria, Diplo, Scissor Sisters, Datsik, MuteMath, Delta Spirit, Blaqstarr, Kinky, Mexican Institute of Sound, Civil Twilight, Quietdrive, An Horse, Gardens & Villa, The Whigs, Hey Rosetta!, K-Flay, Yawn, Kids These Days, Yuna, the Rope and others. The goal for the lineup is to encompass a variety of “electronic, independent, progressive, cutting-edge and local artists,” according to an official statement. More acts are expected to drop in the next few weeks, fleshing out the schedule.

Tickets for the River’s Edge Music Festival go on sale on Friday, April 13, at 10 a.m. CST via the festival’s official site, Live Nation and Ticketmaster. Two-day tickets cost $99 until April 20, and after then, the price will jump. For more information on the inaugural event, visit the River’s Edge Music Festival’s official site.
