Kings of Leon’s Jared Followill has announced a side project called Smoke & Jackal
While alternative rock band Kings of Leon take a little hiatus, bass player Jared Followill has decided to use his time wisely and launch a brand new band. Followill and Mona frontman Nick Brown have fashioned a new side project named Smoke & Jackal, and the two musicians are gunning to release the band’s six-song debut EP, titled “EP1,” on Oct. 16.
“Coming together just worked,” Followill said regarding the pairing in an official statement. “I think it’s because we took such an easy approach to it, we didn’t bring any egos to it. We just talked about each other’s ideas, neither one of us got our feelings hurt. It just worked.”
The upcoming EP will include six tracks: “Fall Around,” “No Tell,” “You’re Lost,” “Road Side,” “OK OK” and “Save Face.” Fans who want to check out the music early are in luck, as the duo have posted a stream of the song “No Tell” online, the first official single from the upcoming album. The track has already garnered nearly 50,000 listens in its first week out, so it seems Kings of Leon fans are catching on. “No Tell” will be for sale via all the typical digital outlets (iTunes, Amazon and more) this coming Tuesday (Aug. 28).
