The Smashing Pumpkins plan ‘Oceania’ fall trek

Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins are all set to tour this fall in support of their new album, “Oceania.” The band just announced they’re planning an arena tour of North America, which will set off Oct. 10 in Seattle at the Comcast Arena in Seattle and will travel through stops in Detroit, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, San Diego and beyond. Check out the full list of tour dates below.

Now, Corgan is famous for giving other ‘90s bands a hard time for playing their past hits and not venturing out into new territory on the road. Just a few weeks ago, he criticized Soundgarden and other acts for “playing their old albums” on tour, telling the PhilStar.com that, “there are those bands that are essentially coming back only to make money — playing their old albums, and maybe somewhere in the back of their minds they’re thinking there might be a future… When Soundgarden came back and they just played their old songs, great. I was a fan of Soundgarden, but call it for what it is. They’re just out there to have one more round at the till; same with Pavement and these other bands.”

But, for the Pumpkins’ upcoming arena tour, the band have stated the shows will be divided into two parts: during the first half, the band will play their new album in full, and for the second half, the group will rock the classics and deep cuts. So, perhaps Corgan has had a change of heart when it comes to pulling out the classics. As for as the stage show, the trek will also include some dramatic visual effects created by Sean Evans, who worked with former Pink Floyd bassist and singer Roger Waters on his recent tour of “The Wall.”
