‘Dark Necessities’ features the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ trademark funky jams

Red Hot Chili Peppers are back with a new album, “The Getaway,” out today (June 17), and a new music video for their single, “Dark Necessities.” Actress Olivia Wilde directed the music video, and the story line shows footage of frontman Anthony Kiedis and the band performing live and a quartet of girls rocking the streets riding skateboards. Additional footage shows bass player Flea performing on bass as he’s sitting in a sink and wearing dish gloves. the video is streaming now via the Peppers’ Facebook page.

“Dark Necessities” is the debut single off “The Getaway.” The song has a smooth, funky feel that stays in line with Red Hot Chili Peppers traditions.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers will serve as headliners at Lollapalooza in Chicago later this summer..

In other news, Kiedis recently told the U.K.’s Radio X that while the guys were filming their “Carpool Karaoke” segment with James Corden from “The Late Late Show,” a woman ran from her house and towards the band screaming that her baby wasn’t able to breathe.

“We all ran across the street. The lady thrust the baby into my arms. The baby was not breathing,” Kiedis said.

“I thought, ‘I’m going to try and do a little baby CPR real quick to see if I can get some air into this kid,'” he added. “I tried to open the mouth. [It was] locked shut. So I started rubbing the belly, bubbles started coming out of the mouth, the eyes rolled back into place. The ambulance showed up and I handed the baby over who was breathing and fine.”
