Five Finger Death Punch recently put their own spin on the Offspring’s chart-topping alternative rock song “Gone Away,” and now, the guys have premiered the official video for the cover tune. The video shows a soldier’s emotional dealings after his friends die in combat, and the story closes out with the words “Gone, but never forgotten.” The video is streaming now on YouTube.

“Every song has exactly as many meanings as many people have heard it, but by creating a music video we can crystallize one of the possibilities, our personal interpretation, and share what those words mean to us personally,” guitarist Zoltan Bathory said in a statement.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and by taking a snapshot of our own perception of something we are also sharing the impact it had on us,” he added. “‘Gone Away’ is one of those songs that can hit you in the chest, and our interpretation may surprise some…but this is how we heard it.”

Five Finger Death Punch’s cover of “Gone Away” appears on the band’s just-released greatest hits album, “A Decade of Destruction,” which is in stores now. The compilation features a bevy of Five Finger Death Punch’s greatest rock hits, as well as a new song called “Trouble.”

After the buzz from the greatest hits set winds down, Five Finger Death Punch will unleash a new studio album. The guys say to expect to hear the highly-anticipated follow-up to 2015’s “Got Your Six,” sometime in May of 2018.
