The 60th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony takes place today (Jan. 28), and the guys of Mastodon, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold and Queens of the Stone Age are all nominated for trophies this year. Since the rock and metal categories generally aren’t televised during the main Grammy broadcast, the awards were given out earlier today, and the results are already in. Foo Fighters, Mastodon and War on Drugs are among this year’s winners.

Taking home Best Metal Performance is Mastodon for “Sultan’s Curse.” The heavy metal band beat out August Burns Red, Body Count, Code Orange and Meshuggah for the honors. In the rock realm, Best Rock Performance went to Leonard Cohen, with nominees in the category including Chris Cornell, Foo Fighters, Kaleo and Nothing More.

Continuing in the rock area, Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters picked up Best Rock Song for “Run,” making this their 12th Grammy. Others in the category included Metallica with “Atlas, Rise!,” K. Flay with “Blood in the Cut,” Nothing More with “Go to War” and Avenged Sevenfold, “The Stage.” Best Rock Album went to War on Drugs for “A Deeper Understanding,” inching out contenders Mastodon with “Emperor of Sand,” Metallica with “Hardwired … to Self-Destruct,” Nothing More with “The Stories We Tell Ourselves” and Queens of the Stone Age with “Villains.”
