Two thousand twelve is shaping up to be a great year for ‘90s alternative rockers putting out new tunes, with buzzed about impending releases from Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins and more on the way.
Garbage are the latest ’90s mainstay to announce a fresh set slated for this year. The Shirley Manson-fronted alternative band will release their yet-to-be-titled, fifth studio album in the spring via their own record label, Stunvolume, which kicked off today (Jan. 23). The album is Garbage’s first since 2005’s “Bleed Like Me.”
“This is beyond exciting for us. Hope you feel the same way, too,” the band posted on their official Facebook page. “Today we announced the launch of our record label, Stunvolume. We will self-release our upcoming studio album later this spring.
“We have had our fill of greedy corporate interest. We don’t like how they do business. This time we are going to do it our way.”
The band added that Stunvolume will see distribution via Fontana in the United States and through various licensing deals with Cooperative Music in Asia, Europe and Latin America, Liberator Music / The Mushroom Group in Australia and New Zealand, Sony in Japan and Universal Canada in Canada.
Garbage are recording the new alt-rock bits at Red Razor Sounds in the Atwater Village area of Los Angeles, making it the band’s first of their albums to be recorded outside of Madison, Wis. Band member and super-producer Butch Vig along with Billy Bush are mixing the album, Bush is engineering it and the album will be produced by Garbage.
“Our intention is to make a great record that we have written, recorded and produced as a band,” the group stated in a release. “We intend to tell the truth. We are one. Even though it’s hard.”
