Depeche Mode and Dave Matthews Band represent alternative rock on Billboard’s list of the Top Tours of 2013

Billboard has unleashed its annual list of the Top 25 Tours list for 2013, and one particulare ‘80s alternative rock band scored a choice spot on the tally. Depeche Mode nabbed the highest-selling tour of any alternative rock act this year, coming in at No. 9 on the list and taking in $99,972,733 for their summer tour in support of the group’s latest studio album, “Delta Machine.” Another longstanding alternative rock act, Dave Matthews Band, also made the tally, coming in at No. 19 with $52,960,667 for their latest tour.

The No. 1 grossing tour of 2013, not surprisingly, was rocker Bon Jovi’s Because We Can tour, which earned a hefty $205,158,370 and sold out all 90 of its tour stops. Cirque Du Soleil’s Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour came in at No. 2 with a total gross of $157,299,100, followed by pop act Pink ($147,947,543), rocker Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band ($147,608,938) and, rounding out the top five, pop singer Rihanna ($137,982,530).

Billboard’s Top 25 Tours of 2013 list was calculated from Billboard Boxscore figures recorded between Nov. 14, 2012, and Nov. 12, 2013.
