Former Smiths frontman Morrissey is penning a piece of fiction, plus planning to hit the studio soon

Morrissey recently release a high-profile memoir, “Autobiography,” and now, the former Smiths singer has dropped the news he’s working hard on a piece of fiction. Answering questions during a special feature with fans via the True to You webzine, Morrissey revealed he’s been writing a full-fledged novel.

He also joked that people seem to enjoy his working more than his music right now.

“In 2013 I published my Autobiography and it has been more successful than any record I have ever released, so…I am mid-way through my novel,” he stated. “I have my hopes. The actuality is that radio stations will not play my music, and the majority of people have lost faith in the music industry, and it’s generally assumed — quite rightly — that the number one chart positions are ‘bought’ by the major labels, so there really is no passion left in pop or rock music.”

Even though Morrissey feels a large amount of people have lost trust in the music business, he’s still planning to hit the studio soon to start writing and recording a new album.

One of the songs on the upcoming album, he explained, was inspired by one his favorite cities. “One of the tracks is called ‘Istanbul’,” he stated. “It is second to Rome as my most favorite city in the world. When I’m in Istanbul I feel as if I could never die. My life is matched.”
