Vivian Campbell of Def Leppard is cautiously optimistic after learning his cancer is in remission

Here’s some good news for Def Leppard fans who have been following guitarist Vivian Campbell’s battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma: In a message posted on Campbell’s official Facebook page, his latest scan confirms that “the cancer is in remission.”

While Campbell is grateful to learn that the cancer is in remission, he’s being cautious. “I’m trying not to get too excited about it as I heard that same phrase late last year only to be disappointed again a few months after when [the cancer] returned,” the 51-year-old said.

Campbell is currently on the road with Def Leppard, who are touring with KISS through the end of this summer. After the trek wraps, Campbell says his treatment plan requires he “do a stem cell transplant as soon as the tour is finished.”

Even with the cancer in remission, Campbell says his doctors are telling him to undergo a third chemotherapy regimen to stay in remission, so “I’m back in hospital, all hooked up and doing my rock ‘n’ roll drugs,” he said.

In other news, Campbell wed his longtime girlfriend, Caitlin Phaneuf, on July 4.
