Tool New Album Update: Music ‘Definitely’ Coming in 2018, Says Danny Carey

Story by Anne Erickson

Whenever a member of Tool is interviewed about any subject, the conversation always turns to when to expect a new album from the band. Well, here we go, Tool fans, because that’s exactly what happened during a recent interview on The Metal Sucks Podcast. During the chat, Tool drummer Danny Carey was asked about the status of the progressive rock band’s highly-anticipated fifth studio album, which has been in the works for years.

So, will the album finally drop next year? According to Carey, Tool’s new album will be out in 2018. “Yes. I’m saying definitely,” he said in the interview regarding the year. “We’ll probably have it done in the first half (of 2018) if things go as planned. There’s setup times and manufacturing – I can never predict all that, it seems like it’s constantly evolving.” He added that he can’t really tell the time of year, but for Tool fans, hearing the album will “definitely” be out in 2018 is more specifics than they’ve received in the past.

If Carey’s answer proves correct, then 2018 will be a very busy year for frontman Maynard James Keenan. Not only will he be releasing new Tool music, but Keenan’s other band, A Perfect Circle, has also promised to release a new album in 2018– spring of 2018, to be exact.

The upcoming Tool album will mark the band’s follow-up to 2006’s “10,000 Days.” Band members have been slowly issuing updates about the new set for years now, and earlier this year, bass player Justin Chancellor said Tool was “90% there” with the writing for the new album.
