The guys of Styx have always envisioned performing their 2017 concept album, “The Mission,” in full, and now, they’ve picked a date

Styx vocalist Lawrence Gowan told Audio Ink this summer that the band was planning some special shows to perform their 2017 concept record, “The Mission,” in its entirety, and now, he’s making good on that promise. The guys of Styx have confirmed they will hit Las Vegas next year to perform a two-set concert that will feature a full performance of that sci-fi concept album, “The Mission,” and other Styx favorites. The show is scheduled for Jan. 20 at the Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort.

“The idea of performing The Mission live in its entirety for you is something we’ve envisioned ever since we recorded it,” guitarist and singer Tommy Shaw said in a statement. “That time is here! We’ve set the date! And we can’t wait to get our hands on the wheel of that rocket-mobile!”

In addition to performing “The Mission,” the band will also perform a full set of popular Styx songs. Tickets went on sale Friday (Oct. 12) via the Pearl Concert Theater box office, as well as at any Station Casinos Rewards Center or online via Ticketmaster.com. For information, head to StationCasinosLive.com or Palms.com.

“The Mission” unfolds with a dramatic story about the fictional first manned voyage to Mars. Styx’s band members take on the role of the crew of a spacecraft as it leaves Earth and heads to Mars in 2033. This past July, the band released a special, deluxe CD/Blu-ray edition of “The Mission,” which features a 5.1 surround-sound edition of the record with visuals for each track based on the album’s artwork. The deluxe release also features a making-of documentary, four music videos and three high-res audio-playback modes.

Styx has toured for much of this year, and the group has a handful of U.S. concerts to go on its 2018 roster, as well as some Los Angeles-area gigs right before the Las Vegas show.

Speaking with Audio Ink Radio last summer, Gowan spoke about the impact rock ‘n’ roll music, stating, “What is undeniable is that rock music was the gigantic musical statement of the last half of the 20th century. There’s no getting past that. It was the music that had more effect on the planet more than any other type of music, and people are still drawn to it.” Read the full interview here.
