Tool Album Update: 2019 Could Mark the Magic Year?
When will Tool fans finally get a new record? Maynard is pointing to 2019
As each year begins and comes to a close, in inevitably brings about the question, “Will we get a new Tool album this year, or possibly next year?” Those are questions fans have been asking for more than a decade. Now, frontman Maynard James Keenan is hinting, big time, that new music might actually hit fans’ ears in 2019.
Keenan made the announcement, of sorts, while accepting the Icon Award at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods in London earlier this week.
At the ceremony, Keenan said, “A lot of work’s being done, a lot of work’s been done. I’ll go on record now as saying you’re gonna see some new music next year.”
The big question is whether Keenan was referring to Tool or his other bands, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Considering that A Perfect Circle just released a new album this year, and Puscifer as been consistently releasing new tracks, he must be referring to Tool. After all, Tool hasn’t released a new album since 2006’s “10,000 Days.” It’s time.
So, how is the new Tool material coming along? In May, Tool drummer Danny Carey said that he was finished tracking the new tunes, and this past weekend, bass player Justin Chancellor said the guys are “making great progress.”
