Eddie Vedder appeared at this week’s Game Awards and performed the Pearl Jam classic “Future Days.” The Game Awards take place annually and honor the best in video games for the year.

“Future Days” can be heard throughout the game “The Last of Us Part II,” which is set in a universe taken over by a mutant fungus that transforms people into strange creatures, much like zombies. In the video game, the character Ellie learns how to play “Future Days” on guitar by her father figure, Joel. The game makes use of guitar throughout, as players can rock the six-string utilizing their game controller.

“I really appreciate the way [‘Future Days’] was used, especially bringing Joel and Ellie together, connecting through music,” Vedder said after his “Future Days” performance. “I thought maybe it was cool too that it made you wanna perhaps pick up a guitar yourself and play a song for your loved one.”

The band had planned to tour to support album, but their 2020 dates were postponed or canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
