U2 Oust the Rolling Stones with Highest-Grossing Rock Tour of All Time
Rock News: U2 touring with the highest grossing production in rock
U2’s 360° tour, the most pricey touring production in rock ‘n’ roll history, has succeeded the Rolling Stones‘ A Bigger Bang tour as the highest-grossing rock tour of all time.
According to Live Nation, following U2’s sold-out gig in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Monday, the band’s stadium tour will oust the Stones, who grossed $558 million on A Bigger Bang between 2005 and 2007.
26 shows are left before the 110-date, 30-country tour wraps up in Canada on July 30, meaning U2’s 360° tour will set the record as the top-grossing tour of all time. Final ticket sales are expected to surpass $700 million.
U2’s tour, which kicked off in 2009, is also expected to set a record for tickets sold at 7 million, passing the Stones’ prior showing of 6.3 million. Each individual concert has grossed an average of $6.4 million for U2, with 63,600 tickets sold, reports Boxscore.
