The Smashing Pumpkins Unveil 12-Date North American Tour
The Smashing Pumpkins to Hit Small Clubs This Fall
Billy Corgan and his entourage in ‘90s alternative rock mainstay the Smashing Pumpkins have announced a cozy, 12-city U.S. tour that will advance the band’s bigger bout of touring to happen in 2012. The tour — featuring Corgan, guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drummer Mike Byrne and bassist Nicole Fiorentino — opens Oct. 5 in Los Angeles and closes out Oct. 22 in Philadelphia.
The Pumpkins have handpicked two opening acts for the shows: Fancy Space People (featuring Don Bolles of the Germs and Celebrity Skin) and Light FM, the latter which is the former band of Fiorentino before she joined the Pumpkins. Tickets for the dates will go on sale soon.
At the shows, expect Pumpkins classics, deep cuts and a handful of tracks from the band’s upcoming album, Oceania, arriving in early 2012. Oceania is the band’s first LP since 2007’s Zeitgeist, and will pack 13 songs with classic Pumpkins flavor. Also coming this fall, EMI Music will reissue the Smashing Pumpkins’ album from 1991 to 2000 in re-mastered, deluxe versions, each with bonus content.
Looking way ahead to 2013, EMI will release a best-of compilation as well as the Pumpkins’ 2000 albums Machina/The Machines of God and Machina II: The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music in one unified package. Looks like years of the Pumpkins’ alternative sound — touching on prog rock with reflective and sincere lyrics — are on the way.
