Shinedown to Play 2012 Avalanche Tour with Adelitas Way, Art of Dying
Shinedown, Adelitas Way, Art of Dying and New Medicine announce 2012 Avalanche Tour
Shinedown release their latest album, “Amaryllis,” March 27 in the U.S., and now the Jacksonville, Fla.-based rock band have a lengthy tour to go with it. Kicking off the same day as the album release, Shinedown will headline the 2012 Avalanche Tour alongside Adelitas Way, New Medicine and Art of Dying. A Shinedown Nation fan club pre-sale starts Jan. 31, and general pre-sale tickets go on sale beginning Feb. 1. General public tickets will be available Feb. 3-4. Find full details up at the Avalanche Tour’s official website.
Shinedown are used to playing packed arenas and amphitheaters, bringing hits such as “Sound of Madness,” “If You Only Knew” and “45” to tens of thousands of screaming fans. This time around, the guys are hitting up smaller venues in hopes that the intimate surroundings will provide the perfect grounds for a meat-and-potatoes rock show.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun for us,” Shinedown drummer and co-founder Barry Kerch told Billboard.com. “We’re going into it with the mindset that it’s not about production and lighting, though we’ll have some of that with us but not over-the-top. It’s going to be bands on a stage, playing rock music, the way it’s supposed to be.”
Kerch added that Shinedown hope to “leave people hungry” with this smaller, initial tour. That means a bigger summer tour is in the works. “It’s kind of fun to start a record that way…a little smaller, and leave people who didn’t get tickets hopefully hungry for when we play bigger places in the summer.”
As for what to expect to hear on Avalanche, Kerch promises new cuts off “Amaryllis,” plus plenty of the band’s greatest hits. He says the Rob Cavallo-produced “Amaryllis” is as “big, grandiose and as wide as you can possibly make it sound. There are strings and orchestrations and synth beds underneath things. Guitars are everywhere, all sorts of different colors and tones and drums and shakers…It’s a really broad, fun to listen to record. If you put on headphone, you’ll feel like you’re sitting in the middle of it all, and that was the idea.” (Courtesy photo: Mike Trobee.)
