Chris Cornell to Take ‘Songbook’ Tour to Europe
Soundgarden frontman plans European solo tour following Download Festival appearance
Soundgarden and former Audioslave crooner Chris Cornell is set to play his first headlining solo dates in the U.K. for over three years this summer. Cornell’s “Songbook” gig are in conjunction with Soundgarden’s much-anticipated upcoming performance at the U.K.’s legendary Download Festival on Sunday, June 10.
Similar to Cornell’s U.S. “Songbook” tour dates, the U.K. shows will feature songs from Chris Cornell’s massive catalog of grunge rock hits, including tracks penned for Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave and Cornell’s extensive solo roster. Tickets for the European shows go on sale to the general public starting on Friday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. via Gigs and Tours.
Cornell says his goal with the release of his solo, acoustic “Songbook” album last year was to give fans a stellar set that represented his legacy, thus far, as a musician and performer. “All I was concerned about was finding versions of the songs that sounded like it felt like they sounded when I was there,” he told Billboard. “It was something I wanted to give back, and I wanted to do it right away because I was just really knocked out by how it was received.”
Cornell also recently announced a handful of U.S. solo “Songbook” shows set for this May. Find those tour dates, here. In addition to Cornell’s solo pursuits, Soundgarden have promised to release their new studio album in 2012 and do some proper touring, to boot, so this year is shaping up to be a busy one for Cornell and company.
