Kings of Leon singer is deep into the writing process for new album
Alternative rock and rollers Kings of Leon are gearing up to plaster their raw, unpolished boogie rock onto a new album, the follow up to the band’s 2010, Grammy-nominated release, “Come Around Sundown.”
Speaking with MTV News on the red carpet for the 54th Grammy Awards, drummer Nathan Followill explained that the guys have studio space, and now it’s just about recording the new tracks. “We just bought a rehearsal space-slash-studio in Nashville, so we’re going to spend the next few months getting that up and running; kind of make it our little clubhouse to get there and just kind of goof off whenever we want to,” Followill said. “But, I’d say within the next six months, we’ll probably start kicking some stuff around.”
As for new material, lead singer Caleb Followill says the band already have the greater part of new tracks penned. “I’ve been writing a lot. Kinda want everyone to get a little break from each other, but whenever they’re ready, I want to play some stuff,” he said.
Followill added that the melodies are shaping up nicely, and now it’s time to put the finishing touches on the alt-rock nuggets. “Well, lyrics, that’s usually one of the last things I do, but the melodies are really strong, and the lyrics that I have written I think are pretty good, but we’ll see,” he said. “These guys are always a good judge of if I’m going the right way with something or not.”
