Metallica Announce Orion Music + More Festival
Metallica to headline their own music festival this summer
Metallica promised fans a special announcement today (Feb. 7), and they delivered. Following in the tradition set by Pearl Jam and the Dave Matthews Band, Metallica will headline their own music festival this summer in New Jersey.
Metallica, in partnership with C3 Presents, will hold Orion Music + More, a new annual music, arts and lifestyle festival, June 23 – 24 in Atlantic City. The festival will feature a monstrous 22 hand-picked artists, with Metallica headlining each night’s festivities. The metal icons promise “lots of diverse music and fun and games,” including full performances of their seminal albums “The Black Album” one night and “Ride the Lightning” the other. As drummer Lars Ulrich explains, the men think the prospect of Orion Music + More is “so exciting we can hardly contain ourselves.”
As for the rest of the lineup, it’s heavy on indie and alternative-minded players– not something you could expect from the godfathers of heavy metal. Performers include Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse, the Gaslight Anthem, Best Coast, Titus Andronicus, Cage the Elephant, A Place to Bury Strangers, Roky Erickson, The Black Angels, Hot Snakes, Gary Clark Jr. and more. Of course, a good set of metal groups made the cut, including the Sword, Liturgy and Avenged Sevenfold.
A Metallica Met Club fan club pre-sale starts Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. EST and runs through Friday, Feb. 10, at 10 p.m. EST. Public on-sale begins Saturday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. EST. For more information on the newest metal festival in town, head to Orion Music + More’s newly-inaugurated official website.
