Zakk Wylde’s New Book Features Stories with Alice in Chains, Metallica
Zakk Wylde’s ‘Bringing Metal to the Children’ promises tales of living on the road
Zakk Wylde fans, please brace yourselves. The legendary frontman for Black Label Society will release his handbook to everything heavy metal, “Bringing Metal to the Children,” on April 10 on William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers. What to expect? Tales of “general mayhem” aboard Wylde’s tour bus on adventure, including stories of rocking with some legendary metal personalities, including Metallica’s Lars Ulrich and Alice in Chains’ Mike Inez!
In “Bringing Metal to the Children,” Wylde details his “survival techniques for maintaining a life on the road, managing a band of raging Vikings, and somehow making it on stage and blowing the crowd away night after night,” according to an official statement. With years of hard-rocking experience in Black Label Society and as the lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, would you expect anything less?
The book starts with Wylde’s “true rocker test” (TRT), where the reader answers ten questions to find out if her or she is a “true rocker and should continue reading.” Then, Wylde gets into stories about living on the road, including tips on “proper touring hygiene, pre-concert preparations, and post-show etiquette.” His stories include a ton of metal legends, including Ulrich, Inez, Eddie Van Halen, Rob Zombie, Dimebag Darrell, Skid Row’s Snake Sabo, professional wrestlers Chris Jericho, Bubba Dudley and Stone Cold Steve Austin, UFC former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin and, of course, the Godfather of heavy metal, Ozzy Osbourne. This book sounds like it’s going to be a blast to read.
On the serious side of things, “Bringing Metal to the Children” also offers Wylde’s “roadmap for success in the music business,” including tour planning and tips for the aspiring “metal musician.” Find more information on the book, which was co-authored by Eric Hendrikx, on Wylde’s official site. In other Wylde news, the guitarist recently announced that Black Label Society are working on a special “Un-Blackened” DVD. (Photo credit: Anne Erickson.)
