Deftones Bass Player Chi Cheng Improving
Deftones bassist Chi Cheng’s condition continues to improve, says family
Last weekend, it was reported that Deftones bass player Chi Cheng — who has been in a partially conscious state and coma ever since a 2008 car accident — had been diagnosed with pneumonia and was transferred to an intensive care unit at the hospital. Now, Audio Ink Radio is happy to report that according to Chi Cheng’s mother, Cheng may be released from the intensive care unit sooner rather than later.
In a fresh message up at OneLoveForChi.com from the bass player’s mother, it appears he is responding well to treatment and making a comeback. Cheng’s mom’s post reads, “He looked better than we had expected. He was quite aware of what was going on. He is still on life support and not enjoying the tube down his throat. He did respond to us and they are going to try and wean him off the breathing machine tomorrow. When they tried today, he did not do well, but he has been on it before and gotten off without incident.”
His mom went on to state that his family is going through the many comments sent by fans. She believes Cheng is aware of the prayers and support that fans are sending to him. “Thank you all again for the prayers and support!” she stated. “He wanted so much to be home and you all brought him to California and to his family. We are so grateful! Please keep him lifted in prayer. Blessings to you all family!”
