DJ Ashba Talks Sixx: A.M., Guns N’ Roses and Beautiful Creatures
Exclusive: DJ Ashba of Sixx A.M. and Guns N’ Roses checks in with Audio Ink Radio
Guitarist DJ Ashba plays killer leads in Guns N’ Roses, and his sound is so precise, one would think he studied the band for years before joining. But ask DJ Ashba, and he’ll tell you that he actually never saw Guns N’ Roses play live before joining Axl Rose onstage.
“I always wanted to see them, but I lived way out in country in small town in Illinois, so the closest concerts came to Chicago, which was about a three hour drive, so it was hard for me to get there, actually,” he exclusively told Audio Ink Radio. “So, I didn’t see a whole lot concerts when I was little!”
Ashba — who also plays lead guitar in Nikki Sixx’s band Sixx: A.M. — built his talent with years of practice and hard work. Hardcore fans remember Ashba’s days back in California-based Beautiful Creatures, an alternative metal group of sorts that played 2001’s Ozzfest and went on to tour the country.
So, does DJ Ashba ever think the guys of Beautiful Creatures will get back together for a reunion show? “I think I’d be fun to get together at some point and just jam for fun,” he said. “They’re all really good guys, and we all stay in contact still. But, I think all of us have moved on since then, and we’re all doing our own thing. I think it’d be a lot of fun to get together at some point and jam, though. We’ve always joked about it and talked about it, but I don’t see anything in the near future, because I know I’m definitely pretty slammed with my schedule. I do have a lot of respect for the guys and always wish them the best.”
