Dave Matthews Band Release Video for National Voter Registration Day
Dave Matthews and company have posted a new video for ‘Mercy’ to help get out the vote
It’s National Voter Registration Day, and alternative rockers the Dave Matthews Band are lending their talents to the cause. The band posted a new edition of the video for their latest single, “Mercy” today (Sept. 25), featuring a message from Matthews about the importance of voting. The video also includes an embedded link to HeadCount.org, so fans know where to go to get their vote on. The video is part of the inaugural National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), which will strive to “bring together volunteers, artists, celebrities, organizations and corporations for a single day of coordinated efforts around voter registration,” according to an official statement.
“This song and video captures the idea that individuals working together can make a difference. That lies at the core of everything we believe,” said Andy Bernstein, the executive director of HeadCount.org, in an official statement.
According to the NVRD, in 2008, 75 million Americans who were eligible to vote didn’t hit the polls, and many of them weren’t registered. The theme of the video is that “one by one we can turn it around.” The video is up on Youtube.com’s home page today, and it can be viewed below.
