Metallica ‘Excited’ to Step In for Green Day at Voodoo Experience
Green Day recently dropped off the Voodoo Experience Festival lineup, but Metallica are stepping in to take their place
The metal men of Metallica will be stepping in for Green Day and the approaching Voodoo Music + Arts Experience festival in New Orleans the end of this month.
Last week, Green Day dropped the news that they would be forced to cancel their planned headlining stint at the festival on Oct. 27 festival, in order to give frontman Billie Joe Armstrong time to undergo treatment for substance abuse at a rehab facility. For a few days, fans were speculating as to who would take the place of Green Day at the festival. Now, festival organizers have announced that Metallica will step in for the headlining spot.
“We are excited to be part of our first ever Voodoo Music + Arts Experience,” Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich commented in an official statement. “Our good friends and fellow Bay Area residents Green Day had to unfortunately cancel their plans to be there, so we are more than happy to fill in for them in our own unique way. We’re hoping we can fill those very large shoes and do them proud.”
Festival organizers are equally stoked to have the metal crew at the fest. “Having Metallica, one of the world’s greatest bands agree to perform at Voodoo in the place of Green Day, only two weeks before the festival, feels pretty surreal at the moment,” festival producer Stephen Rehage said. “I am sure Metallica’s performance at Voodoo will be remembered for many years to come.”
