Adele joins Linkin Park and Usher in reaching 10 million in sales for her album ’21’
Adele’s second studio album, “21,” arrived in 2010, bringing a cornucopia of alternative, soul and pop sounds, and the release is getting some extra fanfare as of late. The singer’s groundbreaking set, which features her trademark single “Rolling in the Deep,” reached a big milestone by passing 10 million in sales in the U.S. this week, according to Billboard.
Adele was quick to tweet out a “thank you” to her fans earlier today, saying, “‘Shine bright like a diamond!’ US fans, we just hit 10 million copies over on your side of the pond! Thanks : ) xx.”
Adele’s “21” is especially exceptional in that it took just two years to push 10 million copies. A few other albums that hit the 10 million mark this year include Linkin Park’s “Hybrid Theory” and Usher’s “Confessions,” although both were out much longer than “21.” Adele’s album is also the 21st album to reach the milestone since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales figures in 1991.
Next up to hit the 10 million mark is Pearl Jam’s debut studio album “Ten,” which is up to 9.98 million is sales thus far, according to Billboard.
