Courtney Love and filmmaker Brett Morgen are working on a documentary about Kurt Cobain

Is a documentary on late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in the works? According to filmmaker Brett Morgen, it’s true. Morgen — who is in the news as of late for putting together the Rolling Stones’ documentary “Crossfire Hurricane” — has revealed he’s working on a new documentary surrounding Cobain. What’s more, he says the whole thing was the brainchild of Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love.

“Courtney is the one that brought me into this,” Morgen told the NY Post of the flick, which is slated to arrive in 2014. “We’ve been trying to find the right time to put this film together and the time is now… Kurt was not only an amazing songwriter and musician, he was an incredible artist and filmmaker. So we are going to do the movie sort of like a third-person autobiography — [as] if Kurt was around and making a film about his life.”

Meanwhile, Love has shot down rumors that a Nirvana-themed Broadway musical is in the works. “There will be no musical,” she unequivocally told the The Observer, since “sometimes it’s best just to leave things alone.”

In other Nirvana news, the folks behind National Record Store Day are releasing a special, 20th anniversary edition of Nirvana’s “Incesticide” on 12” vinyl on Black Friday (Nov. 16). The release includes a completely remastered version of “Incesticide,” pressed by Analogue Productions on two 180 gram virgin vinyl discs and cut at 45 RPM vinyl.

**Editors note: Since this story posted, both Courtney Love and director Brett Morgen have confirmed that Love is not working on the documentary project, EW.com confirmed. Although Love is not working on the project, this is “happy” that Morgen is spearheading the project.**
