Sharon Osbourne Opens Up About Double Mastectomy
Sharon Osbourne says she’s happy with her decision to get a double mastectomy to lower her chances of getting breast cancer
Ozzy Osbourne’s popular wife and manager, Sharon, is giving those with breast cancer some hope through her personal story related to the disease. Sharon says she was so scared of getting breast cancer after finding out she possesses a gene that increases her likelihood of getting the disease that she decided to go through a double mastectomy, and she’s glad she did it.
“As soon as I found out I had the breast cancer gene, I thought, ‘The odds are not in my favor,’” she said in an exclusive interview with the U.K.’s Hello! magazine. “I’ve had cancer before and didn’t want to live under that cloud. I decided to take everything off and had a double mastectomy. For me, it was a no-brainer. I want to be around a long time and be a grandmother…I didn’t even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way. I just wanted to live without that fear.”
Osbourne also explained that she’s done with plastic surgery after finding out from doctors that her breast implants had seeped into the wall of her stomach. “Sometimes I’ll see a photo and I’ll think, ‘My face looks plastic’; it can look so unnatural from certain angles,” Sharon said. “Now I am definitely, definitely done…”
