Upcoming ‘Girls’ compilation album offers tracks from alternative rock groups

Fun., the Vaccines and Grouplove are just a few of the bands who will be featured on a new compilation album, “Girls — Volume 1: Music from the HBO Original Series,” due out on Jan. 8, 2013.

Fun.’s contribution is a track called “Sight of the Sun,” while Grouplove’s track is called “Everyone’s Gonna Get High.” Other artists participating include Robyn, Fleet Foxes, Santigold, White Sea, Oh Land, Sleigh Bells, the Troggs and Belle & Sebastian, to name a few. “Music is such a huge part of my creative process,” ‘Girls’ creator Lena Dunham said in a statement. “I make playlists to write by and listen to as I head to set in the morning, and I experiment in editing with songs that the characters would love and that accurately reflect their struggles. To collaborate with [record label] Fueled by Ramen and so many artists who inspire me on this compilation is a dream.”
