Metallica to Bring Orion Music + More Festival to Detroit
Metallica are bringing their annual music festival to the Motor City
Metallica’s Orion Music + More Festival is back! The metal gents have just announced they will hold their second edition of the Orion Music + More Festival in Detroit on July 8 and 9, 2013. This past summer, the festival took place in New Jersey, so moving it to Detroit is a significant move.
The inaugural edition of Orion Music + More event sold 23,571 tickets, according to Press of Atlantic City, and was considered a massive success. Music-wise, the show featured performances from Modest Mouse, Volbeat, Avenged Sevenfold, Cage the Elephant, Eric Church, The Sword, Gaslight Anthem, Arctic Monkeys and, yes, Metallica headlining both nights of the festival. Chances are, Metallica will reprise their double-headlining role next year. The lineup surprised some metal fans, who were expecting a heavier bill, but the diversity shows that Metallica appreciate a blend of hard rock and indie in addition to their chosen metal genre.
Details have yet to be announced regarding where in Detroit the festival will be staged and who will perform.
In other Metallica news, the band recently re-entered the studio to begin work on the follow-up to their 2008 album, “Death Magnetic,” which will arrive on the band’s own Blackened Recordings label.
