Gaslight Anthem Inspired by Pearl Jam, Neil Young on New Album
Gaslight Anthem count Pearl Jam and Neil Young as influences on their upcoming album
Gaslight Anthem are in the midst of the writing process for a new album, and frontman Brian Fallon says the band is looking to try something new on their next studio effort. In fact, the group is drawing influence from a few popular musical rebels when it comes to tracks for the new album.
“Pearl Jam, Neil Young, those are my big two as far as, ‘I don’t care at all what people think, this is what I’m doing,’” Fallon told Rolling Stone. “It’s not that they don’t care about their audience — they’re searching for something inside.”
As for the sound on the upcoming album, Fallon says that while it will still fall into their alternative rock genre, it might be a bit too “weird” for some tastes. “We’re searching for something new to do with songwriting, rather than just piecing together verses and choruses in more of a traditional sense,” he said. “We’re looking for some other thing — not some other genre, but something else. And it might not be the favorite of everyone, but [it] might be the ‘weird’ album coming up.”
