Alternative rockers MGMT are gearing up to release a new album this year
New music from MGMT is on the way. The popular alternative rock band is gunning to release the follow-up to their 2010 album “Congratulations” in June, according to a recent interview in Rolling Stone.
Ben Goldwasser of the band says recording sessions for the new album were different from anything the guys have experienced before. Moreover, the songs arose out of long jam sessions in the studio. “We’ll get involved in what we’re doing, and the next thing we know, we’ve been improvising for five hours,” the multi-instrumentalist told Rolling Stone.
He added that the upcoming release might be difficult to digest upon first listen. “We’re not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it,” he said.
As for specific songs on the upcoming release, Goldwasser says to expect a cover of “Introspection” by 1960s group Faine Jade, as well as all the originals. Two songs that are likely to make the cut to appear on release include “Mystery Disease” and “Alien Days.”
