Jack White, fun., Walk the Moon Nominated for mtvU Woodie Awards
Artists up for Woodie Awards this year include Jack White, fun., Walk the Moon and others
Fresh off a handful of nominations at the 2013 Grammy Awards, Jack White is now being recognized by a different awards show: the mtvU Woodie Awards. That means that while White didn’t score any trophies at the Grammys, but he could still walk away with some awards this year.
White is up for two awards at the Woodie’s, making him the artist leading the pack. One of the awards, the Branching Out Woodie, pays tribute to musicians who find innovative, creative ways to use social media. White, of course, is perfect for this category, as he switched up the art of album distribution last year by releasing 1,000 balloons into the air with flexi-discs of his single “Freedom at 21” attached, and then scrutinized where they ended up via his Third Man Records website.
Other artists up for Woodies include fun., Walk the Moon and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zero, who are all vying for the event’s chief category, Woodie of the Year. Nominations for various other Woodies went to Of Monsters and Men, Fiona Apple, Best Coast, Alt-J, the Lumineers and the xx.
Fans are able to vote for their personal picks via the MTV Woodies website. The mtvU Woodie Awards will take place at the South by Southwest festival on March 14 in Austin, Texas. Those who can’t make it town to Texas for the festivals may watch them when the show airs on mtvU on March 17 at 8 p.m. ET.
