Deftones’ Stephen Carpenter Comments on Death of Chi Cheng
Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter has released a statement about bass player Chi Cheng’s passing
Deftones bass player Chi Cheng passed away on Saturday (April 13), and now, Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter has issued an official statement from the band responding to the devastating news.
Carpenter took to the band’s official website to post a message about Cheng’s passing. The post reads, “There are so many things I can say, and yet at this moment, none of it matters or compares to the loss everyone feels. There will be a hole in our lives where Chi once was. But that will be filled everyday with all of our love and memories we all have in our heart.”
He continued, “[Cheng] will always be here because of love. It’s time we all give our love and best, and do our best to love. Especially ourselves, Chi would want that for everyone. All our healing will begin with love. I love you, Chi.” He signed the note, “Stephen, for Deftones.”
Cheng had been in the hospital since 2008, dealing with compilations after being injured in a serious car accident. He had been in and out of a coma ever since the accident occurred. Cheng was 42.
