Talking Heads, the Stooges, the Velvet Underground to Appear on ‘CBGB’ Movie Soundtrack
Upcoming ‘CBGB’ film soundtrack will feature songs by Talking Heads, the Stooges, the Velvet Underground and more
The upcoming “CBGB” film tells the tale of the legendary New York City rock club, which hosted a variety of punk, rock and new wave bands in the 1970s and ‘80, such as the Ramones, Misfits and Television. The film, due out this fall, now has an official soundtrack on the way.
According to a message on Omnivore Recordings’ Facebook page, the “CBGB: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” will arrive on Oct. 8 and offer songs the Stooges, Talking Heads, the Velvet Underground, late Ramones frontman Joey Ramone, MC5, Television, Tuff Darts, Blondie and the Police, among others. The soundtrack will feature 20 songs and be available as a standard CD and a two-LP vinyl set. In addition, an expanded version of the soundtrack will be for sale via digital download.
“CBGB” the film is scheduled to premiere at the second annual CBGB Music & Film Festival, set for Oct. 9 through Oct. 13 in New York City. The film promises a star-studded cast, including Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins as Iggy Pop, Alan Rickman as late CBGB owner Hilly Kristal, Joel David Moore as Joey Ramone, Malin Ackerman as Debbie Harry of Blondie, Mickey Sumner as Patti Smith, Kyle Gallner as Lou Reed and Rupert Grint as Dead Boys guitarist Cheetah Chrome.
