Up-and-coming alternative artist Lorde recently turned down the chance to open for pop star Katy Perry on tour
Lorde is topping the alternative radio chart with her single “Royals,” and the success is earning her some major tour offers. Recently, pop star Katy Perry offered Lorde a prime opening spot on Perry’s world tour, and the 16-year-old New Zealand singer, somewhat surprisingly, said “no.”
“I turn down a lot of things. I’m a bit picky with what I do and don’t do,” Lorde said during an interview on the New Zealand TV show 3rd Degree. When asked if it was true that she turned down the chance to open on Perry’s “Prism” world tour, Lorde replied, “Um, yeah. I think she’s really talented; I just don’t think it was quite right for me.”
She added that the decision to skip the Perry trek wasn’t a difficult one. “No,” she answered. “I mean, I have a pretty good gut instinct for stuff and if something feels right, I’ll do it.”
Lorde’s debut studio album “Pure Heroine,” will arrive on store shelves and at all the usual online outlets on Tuesday (Sept. 30).
