R.E.M. to Release Pair of ‘MTV Unplugged’ Concerts for Record Store Day
R.E.M. will unleash two ‘MTV Unplugged’ concerts, plus 11 unaired songs, for Record Store Day 2014
R.E.M. may have broken up in 2011, but the band is dusting off some material for an upcoming Record Store Day release. Back in 1991 and 2001, the guys performed on “MTV Unplugged” series. Those two appearances were never officially released, so they’re finally getting a proper release on April 19, Record Store Day.
Specifically, R.E.M. will release both performances as “Unplugged: The Complete 1991 and 2001 Sessions” available as a limited edition four-LP vinyl set. In addition to the full “Unplugged” shows, the collection will offer 11 songs that were never aired on the television program.
Following the Record Store Day release, “R.E.M. Unplugged: The Complete 1991 and 2001 Sessions” will also arrive on CD and in digital format on May 20. View the full track list below.
The day the vinyl comes out, bass player Mike Mills will autograph copies at the Bull Moose record store in Scarborough, Maine.
Record Store Day takes place the third Saturday in April. The event supports independent record stores by offering limited-edition album releases available exclusively at your local record shop.
