Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla Leaving the Band
Death Cab for Cutie will release a new album in early 2015
Death Cab for Cutie are going strong these days, but following the band’s current schedule of festival dates, lead guitarist and producer Chris Walla has announced he will be leaving the alternative rock band. There are no hard feelings, though, and the remaining band members ensure fans they support Walla in his decision.
“We’ve had an incredible 17 years of making music with Chris and are very proud of what we’ve accomplished together…” the remaining members said in a statement. “We will miss Chris and wish him all the best in the next chapter of his career.”
Walla added, “I will miss being a quarter of this band and will support whatever course Death Cab for Cutie chooses from here. I am profoundly grateful to Ben [Gibbard], Nick [Harmer] and Jason [McGerr] for the experiences that define my adult life. Thank you.”
Death Cab for Cutie do have a new album up their sleeves, though. The band has also announced that their eighth studio release, which features Walla, will arrive early 2015. The band has tapped Rich Costey to produce the release.
