R.E.M. to Release Box Set Chronicling History with MTV
“REMTV” will chronicle R.E.M.’s lengthy relationship with MTV
R.E.M. have been pretty active this fall, for a band that isn’t even together anymore, that is. Earlier this month, the classic alternative band unleashed their two MTV Unplugged episodes on vinyl. Now, the guys have announced that their full history with MTV will be captured in a DVD box set called “REMTV.”
Two DVDs in the six-disc collection include R.E.M.’s “MTV Unplugged” stints from 1991 and 2001. The third disc captures the band’s 1998 “VH1 Storytellers” episode and also includes some songs that didn’t make the original broadcast. The other three discs include 99 live performances taken from R.E.M. appearances around the globe from 1995 through 2008. Two of the shows — 2001’s “Live in Cologne” and 2008’s “R.E.M. Live in Athens, Greece” — include more than a dozen songs and performances that were never released before now.
The set also features a new documentary, “R.E.M. by MTV,” which features highlights from the full box set and takes viewers through R.E.M.’s relationship from start to finish.
“REMTV” is set to arrive on Nov. 24. For more information on the release, visit R.E.M.’s official website.
