Radiohead’s Thom Yorke Releases Solo Album, ‘Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes’

Thom Yorke’s new solo album, ‘Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes,’ is available digitally via BitTorrent
While Radiohead are hard at work on their new album, Thom Yorke has created quite a stir by releasing a new solo album called “Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes.” The eight-song set is available as a digital bundle on the file sharing service BitTorrent and a white-colored, 180-gram vinyl LP via the album’s official website.
So, why did Yorke and longstanding collaborator Stanley Donwood pick BitTorrent to digitally distribute the release? In a statement, Yorke explains it’s a trial of sorts.
“It’s an experiment to see if the mechanics of the system are something that the general public can get its head around,” Yorke said. “If it works well it could be an effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work…Enabling those people who make either music, video or any other kind of digital content to sell it themselves.”
The digital version of “Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes” runs $6 and includes a video for the new song, “A Brain in a Bottle.” Those not looking to purchase the entire album may download the “A Brain in a Bottle” song and video for free. The vinyl version of the album runs $50 and includes access to a few ways to download the album online.
