U2 have unleashed their new album for free on iTunes, iTunes Radio and Beats Music

U2 pulled off a big surprise this week and released their new album, “Songs of Innocence,” as a free download to those who use iTunes, iTunes Radio or Beats Music. Bono and company made the announcement at Apple’s iPhone 6 event yesterday (Sept. 9) in Cupertino, Calif., and according to a post on the band’s website, the album will arrive in a physical edition on Oct. 13 with a 24-page booklet.

“Songs of Innocence” will also available be available as a deluxe, gatefold double album, offering an acoustic session of tracks from the album and bonus songs, plus a gatefold double vinyl LP edition with a remix of “The Crystal Ballroom.”
