Soundgarden to Release Rarities Collection
Soundgarden fans have a three-disc rarities package in their future
Seattle grunge band Soundgarden have announced they will release a new, three-disc set of rarities, titled “Echo of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Path,” on Nov. 24. The collection will include a new song called “Storm,” which the band surprisingly sprung on fans earlier this week.
Each CD in the upcoming Soundgarden set has a different name and theme: “Originals,” “Covers,” and “Oddities.” “Originals” offers B-sides, soundtrack and compilation selections, “Covers” features Soundgarden’s cover versions of tunes by the Beatles, Black Sabbath and other rock notables. “Oddities” packs a hodgepodge of remixes, demos and instrumental tracks.
“Essentially this is a gathering together of ‘loose ends’ from throughout our recording career,” guitarist Kim Thayil said of the release in a statement. “I believe ‘Scattered Tracks Across the Path’ describes this album best. As album sets go, this one has been fun to collect and compile over the decades. I personally may have referenced this project a number of times over the years, going back almost twenty of them to the mid-nineties!”
In other Soundgarden news, the band appeared at last weekend’s Neil Young’s annual Bridge School Benefit concert. Cornell played double-duty, performing both with Soundgarden and appearing with Temple of the Dog for a special reunion set.
