Grateful Dead Supergroup Furthur Breaking Up

Story by Charles Ken
Furthur, the band featuring Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh, is breaking up
Furthur, the group bringing together Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh, have announced they’re calling it quits. The band broke the news via a message on Furthur’s official website thanking fans for “for a terrific ride” and adding they will be “closing up shop at (the website) and heading onward.”
“We’ll all be keeping very busy over the foreseeable future, and it’s time to let Furthur take a bow,” the note states. “We enjoyed the ride more than we can possibly express.”
Fans who still want their fix will find it via Weir’s and Lesh’s respective websites, BobWeir.net and TerrapinCrossroads.net, and the Grateful Dead’s website.
Furthur originated in 2009 and toured consistently through 2013. The full lineup included Weir, Lesh, guitarist John Kadlecik, keyboarist Jeff Chimenti, drummer Joe Russo and backing singers Jeff Pehrson and Sunshine Becker. Furthur’s final show was last January at the Paradise Waits concert in Mexico. Weir and Lesh also performed together last month, when they performed the national anthem at the San Francisco’s playoff game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
