Coldplay’s Chris Martin to Organize Global Citizen Festival for 15 Years
Chris Martin of Coldplay will put together the Global Citizen Festival for the next 15 years
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has a busy 15 years ahead. Martin has just signed on to curate the Global Citizen Festival for the next decade and a half. While the festival has been held in New York City’s Central Park the past three years, the festival will now go global.
“I, and we as a band, are so excited to be working with Global Citizen,” Martin said in a statement. “They are passionate about putting equality, fairness and compassion into the world, and improving the quality of life for millions of people around the world whose needs are sometimes overlooked. We are joining their cause because we believe in it, and in them, very much.”
The Global Citizen Festival’s 15-year campaign is in conjunction with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals to put an end extreme poverty by the year 2030.
As for what’s ahead this year, Global Citizen’s 2015 events include Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day on April 18 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.; the Global Citizen G7 Summit Event on June 7 in Bavaria, Germany; and the 2015 Global Citizen Festival on Sept. 26 in New York City’s Central Park.
Pas bands that have performed at Global Citizen Festivals include Foo Fighters, No Doubt, fun., The Black Keys, Kings of Leon and Band of Horses. The artist lineups for the upcoming Global Citizen events will be revealed later this year.
