Skillet to Record New Album This Summer
Skillet’s John Cooper says he ‘would like to be releasing a record this year’
Christian hard rockers Skillet are hard at work on their new album and have 15 to 18 songs ready to go. Speaking with Billboard, frontman John Cooper says those songs mean the band is about halfway through the writing process.
Skillet, who is out on the Christian rock Winter Jam 2015 Tour, hope to put out a new album by the end of the year. That might be optimistic.
“We’re planning on recording this summer,” Cooper told Billboard. “June will mark two years for Rise, and I would like to be releasing a record this year. So we’re working toward that goal, and even if we don’t we’ll release it early next year.”
Cooper added that he’s more excited about this record than he’s been in “seven or eight years, and it’s just been kind of a joyous time, actually.”
He added, “I’ve been signing autographs on the tour and meeting tons of people, and when I meet people like that it inspires me to write and I’m feeling inspired and just excited to still be making music and hopefully write songs that people can relate to and can make them feel better about themselves or help them through hard times.”
Skillet’s last album, 2013’s “Rise,” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 1 on the Top Christian Albums chart.
