Soundgarden’s latest set of B-sides and rarities will soon be available on vinyl
Soundgarden released a new, three-CD compilation last year called “Echo of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Path,” featuring cover tunes, B-sides, demos and other goodies. Vinyl lovers will be happy to note the set will be available as a six-LP vinyl collection with special artwork later this year.
According to guitarist Kim Thayil, getting “Echo of Miles” on vinyl was a band priority, since the guys have always appreciated classic vinyl records.
“By the time ‘Superunknown’ came out, the record company was hesitant to put out vinyl, and we were like, ‘No, no. We’re vinyl guys. This is the way we came up. We’ve got to release ‘Superunknown’ on vinyl,'” Thayil told Rolling Stone. “So, of course, it’s a double-album and so is ‘Down on the Upside’ and ‘King Animal.’”
“Echo of Miles” will arrive on vinyl on May 19. Thayil says this release is just as important as if Soundgarden were to put out a new studio album.
“These are as valuable as anything else that we put on the record,” Thayil said. “That’s what ‘Echo of Miles’ addresses. Some reviewers might hear it as outtakes or simply B-sides, but these are Soundgarden songs that were never present on a Soundgarden album.”
