5 Seconds of Summer’s Michael Clifford Fields Scary Onstage Accident
Michael Clifford of 5 Seconds of Summer is safe after a scary onstage incident
Was there something in the atmosphere last weekend that caused not one, but two scary onstage incidents for band members? First, Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl broke his leg playing a show in Sweden last Friday, and somehow finished the show. Now, there’s news of a scary scenario unfolded during 5 Seconds of Summer’s gig last Saturday at London’s Wembley Arena, when guitarist Michael Clifford was burned on the face and head by pyrotechnics.
The frightening situation was captured on video from an audience member and posted on Twitter, and thankfully, Clifford was doing well enough later that night to poke fun at the situation. He tweeted out a picture of himself giving a thumbs-up sign, even with his head and part of his face draped in bandages, and said, “sorry I couldn’t finish the encore, but at least I look like two face,” in reference to the Batman character. The next day, Clifford was doing very well and back on the road. He tweeted, “Feeling loads better and my face is fine…excited for the show tonight.”
Capitol, the band’s record label, confirmed that Clifford was fine to perform Sunday and wrap up the band’s three-show London series, but added, “There will be no pyrotechnic production for the show this evening.” No kidding.
